Products

Products represent music releases such as albums, EPs, singles, and compilations. They group multiple songs together and provide a way to organize your catalog for distribution and fundraising purposes.

What is a Product?

A product is a collection of songs representing a release. Products have:

  • A specific type (album, EP, single, compilation)
  • Multiple songs with track order and disc numbers
  • Primary and featured artists
  • Release dates
  • Supporting documents (artwork, distribution agreements)

Creating and Managing Products

  1. Organization Admins can create products.
  2. Enter product information:
    • Product name
    • Type (album, EP, single, compilation)
    • Primary artist(s)
    • Release date
    • Status
  3. Once created, you can link songs to the product. You can only add songs that your organization has access to through Song Admin or Song Viewer roles.
  4. Add detailed information about your product:
    • Genre - Music genre classification
    • Label - Record label name
    • Catalog Number - Label catalog number
    • UPC/EAN - Barcode for physical or digital distribution
    • GRID - Global Release Identifier (if applicable)
    • Copyright Information - P-line (phonographic copyright) and C-line (copyright)
    • Production Credits - Producers, engineers, studios
    • Release Notes - Information about the release

Complete info will allow products to be more easily delivered to distributors.

Importing Metadata with AI

If you have product information in another format (distributor reports, liner notes, emails, spreadsheets), you can use the Metadata Agent feature to extract it automatically:

  1. Open a product and go to the Main Info tab
  2. Click the Metadata Agent button in the header
  3. Paste the text containing your product information
  4. Click Extract — the AI agent will identify and extract fields like product name, UPC, release date, label, copyright lines, and more
  5. Review the extracted fields in the preview table
  6. Click Apply to Product to fill in the form with the extracted values
  7. Review the populated fields and click Save Changes

The AI agent understands common formats from distributors, DSPs, and label catalogs. It will only fill in fields it can confidently identify — you can always adjust values before saving.

Track and Disc Numbers

Organize songs within the product:

  • Track Number - Position within the disc/release
  • Disc Number - For multi-disc releases (usually 1 for single-disc)

These numbers control the display order and help with distribution metadata.

Songs on Multiple Products

A single song can appear on multiple products:

  • The original album
  • A single release featuring the same track
  • A compilation including tracks from various albums
  • Remastered or deluxe editions

Product Artists

Primary Artists

The main artist(s) credited for the product. Products can have multiple primary artists (e.g., collaborative albums). Contact Worth if you need an artist profile created.

Guest artists who appear on one or more tracks in the product but aren't primary artists for the release.

Artist Display Order

When multiple primary artists are listed, you can control their display order for credits and marketing materials.

Relationship Between Songs and Products

Understanding how songs and products relate:

Songs are the foundation:

  • Individual tracks with their own ownership
  • Revenue tracked at the song level
  • Can exist independently of products

Products are collections:

  • Group songs together for releases
  • Provide context for marketing and distribution
  • Can be reorganized without affecting underlying songs

Many-to-Many Relationship:

  • One song can be on many products
  • One product can have many songs
  • Changes to a song affect all products that include it

Common Scenarios

Releasing a Single Before an Album

  1. Create a "Single" product with 1-3 tracks
  2. Release the single (status: Released)
  3. Later, create an "Album" product
  4. Add the same song(s) to the album product
  5. Both products can be linked to the same project

Multi-Disc Albums

  1. Create one product (type: Album)
  2. Add songs with disc numbers 1, 2, 3, etc.
  3. Set track numbers within each disc

Compilation Albums

  1. Create a product (type: Compilation)
  2. Add songs from various releases
  3. Songs can belong to different artists
  4. Use featured artist credits as needed

Remastered Editions

  1. Register remastered versions as new songs (with new ISRCs)
  2. Create a new product for the remastered edition
  3. Link to the original product if needed for context
  4. Consider archiving the original product

Archiving Products

Products can be archived to remove them from active listings without deleting the underlying data. This is useful for discontinued releases, superseded editions, or catalog cleanup.

When a Product Cannot Be Archived

A product cannot be archived if it is part of a project with an active fundraise. All other products can be archived.

How to Archive

  1. Open the product detail page.
  2. Click the Archive button in the page header (visible to admins).
  3. Confirm in the dialog.

Finding and Unarchiving

Use the Filter dropdown on any product listing to switch between Active, Archived, and All views. Open an archived product and click Unarchive to restore it.
